The Pop-Up Artisan Market – in the Ebro

A little bit of background –  I started The Pop-Up Artisan Market when Covid saw us all locked away. During my time up in the Girona region I had been an active member of the artistic and artisan community and taken part regularly in brocanters markets where you could find a mixture of vintage, antique, second hand and traditional and non traditional crafts. When we were all confined myself and my friends in the community not only missed the in person events, the inspiration from meeting regularly but also the ability to sell our work. It gave us back the community we missed but once we were back in the real world I put The Pop-Up on a back burner. However, I didn’t ditch it completely as I felt it may be something to revisit one day.

After fifteen years living in Girona we moved to the Ebro last year and I threw myself into renovating our new to us house in the campo near Roquetes. Most recently I have been gradually connecting with other creatives and like Girona most of us are spread out across the region and as there is no regular craft market that meets our needs we take part in ad hoc events when we can find them. There are two that I am trying out and making connections with, one in Benifallet which is an Artisan Market and another in Xerta which is a car boot. Both have great potential and I am in contact with the organisers to work together moving forward. The other opportunity that has fallen into my lap is that I have been asked to organise a Christmas Fair for Top Cat Radio and during my searching I have made contact with a number of fresh faces who like me are looking for a regular gig.

So here we are. The ideal time to revive The Pop-Up Artisan Market facebook page. I am keeping it as a business page rather than a group so I can use it as a message board that anyone can see but I am inviting those who want to promote their work to join me and I will add you to the Business Directory where you can have an image of your work and your contact details. I will post events we can take part in as and when they are promoted and you can share them on to people who might be interested in coming along and buying our stuff. Equally as other potential venues pop up so will we!

So whether you are a baker, a crafter, a jewelry designer, a wood turner or carpenter, a metal worker, a knitter or crocheter, a jam maker, an upcycler or recycler, or a purveyor of vintage and antiques or any other kind of creative or collector this might be somewhere you can share your ideas, inspirations and find out what is going on in and around our area. you can visit the facebook page here and browse the photos of past Girona members products and events we have taken part in although I have removed the albums and contact details, however, many continue to work and sell their crafts and makes.

I hope you will join me and just so you know I still have limited space for the Christmas Fair which will be taking place in Tortosa (venue and dates to be notified once the Ajuntament returns to normal after the August holidays). PM me for full details.

    Hello,

I don’t have a website or social media at the moment — life has brought me into a big period of transition, and I’m also here on a non-lucrative visa. I’m getting married in September though, and I’m really keen to integrate and be part of the community.

I’ve been a community artist for 30 years, and for the last 10 I’ve been working mainly with textiles. I make embroidered felt bears and also teach Indian-inspired quiltmaking such as Kawandi and Kantha.

I run courses both online and in person, and this winter I’ll be teaching three online classes:

    Intuitive Indian Inspired quilting

    Contemporary Embroidery Samplers

Designing & Making Folk Art Bears

My style is very relaxed and open — no rules, just simple and effective techniques. Everything I teach is beginner-friendly and especially welcoming for people who are neurodiverse or dyslexic. You don’t need to be physically strong or mobile either — I like to say you can make a quilt from an armchair, or even from bed!

My MFA research was all about helping people who had always said: “I can’t — but I’d love to.” And I truly believe that anyone can make a quilt in 10 weeks with the right support.

I’m based in L’Aldea. I live with ME, so I can’t drive far (or at night), but I would really love to join your group and feel part of a creative community.
