We’re moving in!

movingYay! We are nearly there!

In some ways the delay with the building and construction work meant we started with the outside and that is looking nicely established now. So we can look out of the balconies and windows on an actual garden.

As with most house renovations things rarely go to plan and almost always take longer than anticipated and this one has been no exception.

That aside today is the final push to have everything completed and we have been able to move some of our bigger furniture in so Sunday will be the actual day we put our heads down in our own bed in the new place.

Outside the pergola and deck is almost finished and one of the new french doors is being fitted on Saturday (fingers crossed!), the mix up on the order means the second door will have to be fitted in January but hey ho am past stressing now. The pergola and deck are made of seasoned oak and should weather to a nice silvery grey needing only a wipe of linseed seasonally. Can’t wait to choose the antique railings to go along the front, the planting and the furniture in the Spring.

The new retaining wall will also be rendered on Saturday and come next year will have planting growing up it and down it so it won’t look quite so imposing. The gravel beds will be filled with perennial planting and shrubs too. Something for me to contemplate over the winter.

The new decked area gives us much better access to the garden and pool area and a great place to sit out and enjoy a cool drink on a sunny day, dinners al fresco or a quiet spot to relax and take in the view.
