Renovating my outdoor table

After successfully renovating the outdoor table at my chalet am itching to get started on my large ten seater on the downstairs deck. At the moment it is unloved, unused and decidedly shabby with having no large gatherings or family here for nearly two years! The last renovation involved using pallet wood, which looked suitably rustic but over time has gone a bit wibbly wobbly (technical term). This time am going to use the same technique that I used at the chalet – tiles.

Had my good friend and ultimate handyman Mick over to measure up for a new top of ply and trim which he will cut to size and screw in place as a blank canvas for my tiling. I have a few packs of 15cm square plain off white tiles spare, if you know me you know I rarely throw anything away, much to my ever patient husbands dismay. Yesterday I took myself off to Leroy Merlin and purchased 8 packs of these heritage mosaic tiles, each one measures 7.5cm square so the sizing works perfectly with the white iles. Watch this space for progress.

In the meantime I really need to give the deck itself a coat of stain and protect, recover the sofa cushions, paint the shutters and fill the planters.  Not having visitors or guests for nearly two years really puts the kibosh on my motivation to keep the entertaining spaces up to scratch.

Am really fancying the greeny blue colours from the tiles for the shutters and planters and am veering toward Oliva as a good heritage green colour that I feel fits with the colours of the surrounding garden and countryside. Now I have to decide on a plain or patterned fabric for the sofas. They are at the other end of the deck and away from the table so a pattern wouldn’t be too distracting and would disguise any spills and patches, it is an outdoor area I dont want to be whipping the covers off every five minutes to wash them but then I am a dyed in the wool minamilist type who prefers throwing a cushion or a painting in to a very neutral background so this is way outside my comfort zone. I feel more internet research is required before I make any big purchases. I’ll check back in once I’ve made up my mind!
