Cuisine

The region is famous for its cuisine and boasts many Michelin starred establishments, not least the most famous of all, El Celler de Can Roca. You may struggle to go for dinner, there is a year’s waiting list, but you can experience the Roca brothers genius if you try for lunch, or visit their ice cream parlour, Rocambolesc, on Carre Santa Clara in Girona. If you are feeling really flush you could stay at their hotel, Casa Cacao, on Placa Catalunya or for the experience have a coffee and chocolate in the ground floor coffee shop.

Equally you will find a good menu del dia at many restaurants, delicious pastries in the Forns, fresh seafood in beachside cafes, and a range of prices to suit all pockets. You will find rostiserrias selling delicious hot roast chicken in most towns and villages, food markets with local and fresh produce and even supermarkets have locally prepared tapas dishes ready to take away for a picnic or alfresco dining.
