Shine bright like a diamond

You win some you lose some. Never one to not try to fit in  a last minute crafty make, damn you Pinterest, I decided to make these super cute snowy glass jar votives. They appealed to me being all snowy and bright. So off I went to get myself some Epsom salts, in Girona, they hadn’t heard of Epsom Salts so we googled it, me and the farmacia came up with magnesium sulphate. Sounds about right I say to myself. No they didn’t have any but they could get me some the next day.

The next day I took delivery of a kilo of magnesium sulphate. Well am not going to be running out of that stuff in a hurry.  Add glitter the recipe said, so I dug out some glitter.  Using an old icre cream tub I duly mixed the magnesium sulphate, which was much more powdery than the crystal I had been expecting, with the glitter. Then I liberally painted my nice clean glass jars with pva and sprinkled it all over with the powdery glittery mix.

Basically it looked less like a sparkling snow covered glass votive and more like an old sauce jar covered in white powder with a twinkle. You know what I mean I would have taken a picture but it would definitely have looked like one of those nailed it photos you see on the internet. I ditched the whole snow look and decided to go full on glitter. I mean who doesn’t want a bit of sparkle at Christmas?000

They actually look pretty good now they have their accessories on, some rustic twine a wooden snowflake and wooden beads. I popped a battery operated tea light in and voila very effective.  You can’t, of course, see that full effect it being daytime but you get the idea.0000

I, however, look like something off a Christmas tree, glitter has stuck to every available inch of  me, the floor, the dining table, even the three cats have a twinkle when they catch the light. Oh well at least we look festive!

If you fancy having a go at the snowy votives you can find the diy on A pumpkin and a princess or you can be like me and simply paint your pot with pva and cover everything and everyone with glitter, or, you can not bother with any of that and just pop down to La Sala in Corca on Saturday and buy one off my stall. See so much easier!
